EXPO 2027: Over Three Million Visitors Expected, 110 Countries Confirmed Participation
Belgrade is at the centre of global attention. Over 110 countries have confirmed their participation in the EXPO exhibition, with expectations that the total number will reach around 130 participating countries.
Danilo Jerinic, Director of the EXPO 2027 Operations Sector, told Newsmax Balkans that the infrastructure being built will remain in use for decades and that such projects are a catalyst for economic development.
Belgrade is rapidly preparing for the largest global event ever to be held in Serbia—the specialized exhibition EXPO 2027. The location in Surcin, which was considered an underutilized potential just a year ago, is now a vast construction site.
"We are ahead of schedule. We are working on precise planning of all processes, and there is coordination of all activities. We have more than 2,000 workers on the construction site daily, with several hundred people in offices supporting the site with necessary materials," emphasized Jerinic.
Belgrade is becoming the center of global attention, with 110 countries already confirming their participation in EXPO 2027 – the fastest-filled world exposition in history, said Dimitri Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).
So far, 110 countries have confirmed their participation, setting a record for specialized EXPO events. It is expected that this number will increase, aiming to surpass the current record of 117 participating countries held by Astana.
"Belgrade has become a place of great interest and incredible excitement worldwide. This is the fastest-filling EXPO we have ever seen. This means there is enormous excitement and a sincere desire to be present in Belgrade in 2027," said Dimitris Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions, to Newsmax Balkans.
EXPO 2027 is expected to attract over three million visitors, generate thousands of jobs, and bring profit and new investments.
The theme of the exhibition—"Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All"—will be presented through modern pavilions and interactive content.
"This message is for all of us, to overlook some of our conflicts and misunderstandings and to truly focus on essential matters, which is humanity," Jerinic noted.
EXPO 2027 is not just an event—it is an opportunity for Belgrade to become a global capital of innovation, culture, and cooperation. The goal is for every visitor from around the world to leave Belgrade with a sense that they were part of something unique—not just a technological and cultural spectacle, but also a meeting of different peoples and ideas. For many, EXPO will be their first contact with Serbia. And for Serbia—a chance to make a memorable impression.
