Dodik Announces Referendum on His Office

The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, whose mandate has been revoked by the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina – pending final confirmation – has announced a referendum concerning himself and the office he holds.

Following a meeting with coalition partners, Dodik stated that they had unanimously decided to continue "defending the constitutional status and position of Republika Srpska."

He said that during the meeting, it was concluded that the position of Republika Srpska is seriously threatened by the actions of High Representative Christian Schmidt.

"The people gave me the mandate, which is why I will listen to them in the referendum that will be held in the coming period, and which will decide on my future," said Dodik.

A special session of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska is scheduled for Friday, during which members of parliament are expected to consider calling the referendum.
