Djuric After Meeting With Mitsotakis: EU Membership Will Strengthen Both Countries
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric, during a meeting in Athens, expressed gratitude to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his support of the European Serbia vision, emphasizing that Serbia’s accession to the EU would strengthen the position of both countries.
He stressed that Serbia highly values Greece’s consistent and continuous support in achieving its strategic goal and foreign policy priority – full EU membership – according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Djuric also noted Serbia’s appreciation for Greece’s clear stance in favor of opening Cluster 3 in the EU accession process, highlighting that without tangible progress by Serbia and other Western Balkan candidate countries on the EU path, there can be no solid guarantees of regional stability.
Furthermore, Djuric thanked Greece for its support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and affirmed Serbia’s support for Greece’s territorial integrity on land, sea, and air, including the Aegean islands.

He remarked that the traditionally close relations between the two countries and their peoples provide strong incentives for further strengthening the overall bilateral ties between Serbia and Greece. He also emphasized the personal rapport between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis as a key aspect of their relations.
Hungarian Ambassador to the EU Odor Balint stated that he signed a letter on behalf of the Council of the European Union, inviting Serbia to submit its negotiating positions for Chapters 16 and 19 under Cluster 3, which focuses on competitiveness and inclusive growth.
The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, stated in Brussels that Serbia could soon make progress in its EU accession talks, given some positive assessments from the European Commission and the fact that its alignment with the EU’s foreign policy is somewhat better than before.
Emanuele Giofre, the Head of the EU Delegation, stated that Serbia has made progress in aligning its foreign and security policies with the EU compared to last year, adding that alignment in this area is one of the most concrete indicators of a candidate country's geostrategic orientation.
Regarding economic cooperation, Djuric noted that while it is grounded in a strategic partnership, it still does not reflect the full potential and shared interests of both nations.
In this context, he conveyed Serbia’s readiness to make additional efforts to elevate Serbian-Greek economic cooperation to the level of their political relations.
The interlocutors also discussed key issues in regional cooperation and current geopolitical developments.
During the meeting, Djuric presented the Greek Prime Minister with an original invitation letter from President Vucic for participation in the specialized Expo 2027 exhibition in Belgrade, expressing hope that friendly Greece will participate at the highest level in this event.
